Probate

Margaret (Peggi) Sorrell was born in Manning, S.C. in 1963. he daughter of the late Margaret DuRant Jackson and the late Carl Frank Jackson, she graduated from Laurence Manning Academy in 1981, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston in December, 1984. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1988.

Judge Sorrell was elected to the office of Probate Judge of Clarendon County in November, 2016 with the Honorable Thomas W. Cooper, Jr. administering the oath of office to her on January 3, 2017. She was a clerk in the Probate Court from August 2013 until February 2015, and Deputy Judge from November 2015 until assuming office

She is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the SC Association of Probate Judges, and the National College of Probate Judges. She is a "cradle member" of the Presbyterian Church at Manning (PCUSA), Past President of the Clarendon County Historical Society, member of the Elizabeth Peyre Richardson Manning chapter of the NSDAR, member and chaplain of the Capt. Elisha Bethea chapter of Daughters of 1812, member and treasurer of Teige Cantey chapter Colonia Dames 17th Century, and member of the Society of First Families of South Carolina, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, and the Huguenot Society of South Carolina. She is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.

Judge Sorrell has been married to her husband, Rev. Michael Sorrell, FNP for 35 years. They have two sons and three grandchildren. In her spare time she treasures being Michael's wife and traveling with him.
